More than 7,000 boys live on the streets of Kigali. For the younger boys, Africa New Life offers many opportunities But many of these boys are too old to return to school. And they need help getting off the streets.
Africa New Life provides vocational training in carpentry and metal-smithing for these older boys. Each year 25 boys learn valuable skills that help them get jobs and pull themselves out of poverty.
Currently, the training program meets in a condemned building on the Dream Center property. The 25 students are cramped into a small space that is unsafe.
A new facility for vocational training will increase the capacity of the program from 25 students to 200 students.
In addition, the new vocational center will include bathing stations for street children to use, plus an area for washing clothes.
By the beginning of 2011, the doors to the new street children vocational training building will open.
PROGRESS – COST: $180,000 RAISED: $160,000
