orphans

In 2006, the UNICEF office in Rwanda estimated there are more than one million orphans in Rwanda. Many live with relatives, many have established their own homes (child-headed households) and thousands live on the streets.

Despite struggles, Africa New Life believes that orphans have the potential to be successful in life. Currently, Africa New Life manages six children’s homes for orphans.

Grace Children’s Home: Opened in 2006

Mercy Children’s Home: Opened in 2006

New Life Children’s Home: Opened in 2006

Orchards Children’s Home: Opened in 2008

Timothy Children’s Home: Opened in 2007

In order to raise orphans in a family setting, an “Auntie” lives and disciples 16 children living in each of these five homes. This setting allows children to thrive, giving them an opportunity to learn and grow.

Churches or individuals sponsor each children’s home. If you would like to build and/or fund a home, please contact alan@africanewlife.org.

Umucyo (Light) Home: Opened Spring 2010

The Umucyo Home is a haven for former street boys. While in this transitional home, children live under the care of a House Dad and attend school as they adjust to life off the streets. In addition, they receive Christian counseling and discipleship.

Children living in any of the children’s homes attend New Life Christian Academy. When primary school is completed, children transfer to a local boarding school for secondary education, as is customary for children in Rwanda.
