Natalie Green, Africa New Life’s US Representative, just visited Jovanus to check on his status.  Jovanus is a seven-year-old boy from Kageyo who’s crippled legs left many friends of Africa New Life wanting to do more.  On May 18, Jovanus received life-altering surgery in Uganda to correct his legs.

Today, this video of Jovanus walking with straight legs is bringing smiles to our faces and tears to our eyes:

He even decided to share his favorite song with Natalie, giving praise to Jesus!  He is precious.

Young Boy Shares About Rwanda with His Sunday School Class

Noah, the 12-year-old grandson of one of Africa New Life’s sponsors, wanted to help spread the word about sponsoring children with the kids at his church, Rockaway Community Church in Rockaway, OR.

Noah collected Africa New Life materials and made his own poster to give his presentation to his Sunday school class.  With the help of his grandmother Jackie, the kids in the class colored maps of Rwanda and wrote letters to Fauste, the child that Noah’s grandparents sponsor in Rwanda.

Noah’s desire to help Fauste also assisted Noah in earning a merit badge with the Boy Scouts of America. Noah shows us all that anyone can help the children of Rwanda!

Portland Radio-thon is a Smashing Success!

Posted on 10. Jun, 2011 by in BLOG

On June 1 and 2, Africa New Life invaded the airwaves of Portland radio stations The Fish 104.1FM and KPDQ 93.9FM to help provide food and safe water for the street children of Rwanda.

After the two-day event, enough was raised to fund the Street Children Ministry for nearly seven months and serve more than 3,500 children!  This was the most successful radio-thon event Africa New Life has had.

THANK YOU to all who donated, volunteered and tuned in to make this event a huge success!

On June 30, catch Africa New Life on Star 93.3FM  in Cincinnati, OH or online at http://www.mystar933.com/ from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. EST.

Getting Off the Streets: Fils’ Story

Posted on 10. Jun, 2011 by in BLOG, RWANDA

Fils, 19, shares his story:

Fils gets the tools he needs for a carpentry project

My father disappeared after the Genocide [in 1994]—he probably died in the fighting. My mother abandoned us and I had nowhere to live.

Life on the streets wasn’t easy. We ate out of garbage bins. During the day, I would go to a restaurant to wash utensils just so that I could eat the leftovers. I had no clothes and walked around barefoot. I began the habit of taking drugs to give me peace and to get sleep at night.

Deworming Clinic in Kageyo

Posted on 10. Jun, 2011 by in BLOG, PARTNERS, RWANDA

One month ago, a generous donor provided all of the funds necessary to run a two-day de-worming clinic in Kageyo, a refugee resettlement camp where Africa New Life works.

The clinic was run in partnership with the government-run Kageyo Health Center.  More than 1,700 children showed up to receive their medication.  In addition, the clinic was able to employ seven extra people to handle the crowd.

Children lined up and were given instructions.  The clinic staff helped them take tablets and sent them home with more tablets to take.

The doctor in charge, on behalf of the community said, “We appreciate such intentional support of the children in the community.  May the good Lord bless the donor and Africa New Life.”
