Hundreds of Street Children Accept Christ

Brian Bizimungu, one of Africa New Life's sponsored college students

About 1,000 older street children live in Iwawa, an island on Lake Kivu in Western Rwanda.  The Rwandan government moved them there to get them off of the streets of Kigali and to give them vocational training—a chance for changing their future.

Last month, some sponsored college students who have grown up in Africa New Life’s program felt God’s leading to go to Iwawa and share the gospel with these young men.

A small team went, including Brian Bizimungu who lead worship and John Nadahiro who preached.

Most of the street children on the island gave their lives to Christ.  It was a revival!

Before Brian and John left, 120 of those young men were baptized.

Brian shares about the experience:

Iwawa is an Island that is between Rwanda and Congo, the Government collected some street kids from all around Rwanda and took them there for counseling and training.  When I heard people from New Life were planning to go there, I knew that my heart is with those kids and I said I have to go. I took my guitar and we went.  I was singing as John Nadahiro, one of our first sponsored students and another young man were preaching and showing Christian movies.  So many of these street kids got saved.  I have never seen anything like it.  Then they said to us, You can’t leave this place until you baptize us. So the three of us went in the water and we baptized 120 of them.  We are now planning to go back with a big Team when all goes well to baptize and preach to the rest. Isn’t that awesome? I will never delay again when God tells me to go somewhere.

God moved in the hearts of sponsored children and now the angels are rejoicing in heaven!  By sponsoring a child, you are supporting a future leader of Rwanda, someone who one day may lead others to Christ.

PRAISE GOD! My wife and I have been following thr Rwandan newspaper and had mixed emotions about the island and it’s purpose. Clearly god has plans for those young men. Great Job Brian and the Whole Team!

I know Brian and am so proud of what he has done. most people hope to lead one person to Christ in there life. And he has lead more than a hundred into the water to be baptized just as Jesus had done. It truely shows if we listen to Gods call how he will use us and work thru us to do his work here on earth. This story has moved me greatly and I have shared it with others who were also deeply touched. Thank you for sharing your story and letting me be a part of the exceperinece. I will continue to pray for you and Gods leading in your involvment with these young men. Gods peace. hobes mary fenner

Brian and John, keep up the good work. Just think of the impact on the lives of these who are getting not only vocational training, but Spiritual food and equipping. May you continued to be used by God!

Wow! i am suspicious of the rawandan government doing anything good for their citizens, but God has great plans. This is an amazing story. Thank you Brian and Africa New Life. God has blessed these kids through you!
